Photo Contest

We are delighted to announce we will be reintroducing the OCIB photo contest this year! We wanted to give everyone the chance to share images from their research adventures, and to show off their photography skills.

The full list of rules for participating can be found in the photo submission form. Submissions are due by April 23rd, 2025.

The winner will receive a gift card prize! Voting will take place during the OCIB symposium (April 28 to 29th) and be based on creativity, originality, technical quality and composition. 

Rules for Participating

  • The photo taken must relate to your research, or to the Carleton-Ottawa Institute. Examples include images taken during fieldwork or lab work, camera trap images, microscopy images, or images around campus (Carleton or uOttawa).  
  • All photos must be taken by you. Original works, no third party may own or control any materials the photo contains, and the photo must not infringe upon the trademark, copyright, or intellectual rights.
  • For consent purposes, the only people that can appear in the photo is you. 
  • Each participant is allowed to submit only one photo. 
  • You are free to edit your images to improve its technical quality (brightness, sharpness, etc.) but nothing that changes the integrity of the photo. 
  • Images that are inappropriate for any reason will not be included in the photo contest.
